Oscar Best Dressed Award: The White Tailored Shirt

The annual Oscar ceremony never fails to bring a slew of designer favorites and fashion blunders to full view. The biggest night in Hollywood this year came with some major red carpet hits - and slaps. The simple white button down shirt shook the over-the-top embellished gown to its predictable Tinseltown core.

As we saw, the crisp white shirt was elevated to 2022 A-list standards but whispered of notable looks of Oscars past. On Sunday evening, Oscar presenter Wanda Sykes chose to go full monochrome in her tailored shirt by pairing it with a flawlessly white tuxedo jacket and matching trousers while Uma Thurman opted for contrasting her silk collared button down with a black, full length Bottega skirt. Young starlets like Zendaya and Kristen Stewart took a more bold approach to the crisp white shirt, as they were styled in sky high cropped versions of the hero piece and revealing front cuts paired with a custom black Chanel short suit.

But as they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery - and it appears as though even the meek white shirt is having its
Deja Vu moment at the Oscars. One of Sharon Stone’s greatest fashion moments occurred at the Academy Award ceremony in 1998 when she confidently rocked a crisp white button down from Gap with a satin floor length by Vera Wang. Diane Keaton is also no stranger to the simple airy top as we look back to her at the 2004 Oscars.

Some would note that the white collared shirt at the Oscars is a virtuous nod in a feminist direction. A call to arms against “the man” or men who overpopulate the silver screens behind the scenes. No matter what, the white button down look when elevated for the Oscar party or for a low key birthday party - is effortlessly elegant and always a win.

It is without question the Donna would have made a splash at this years soiree, (if we do say so ourselves). Nevertheless, we are thrilled to see the coveted silhouette have a starring moment on this years carpet and can’t help but sharing our own version of a truly timeless styling using our Donna white button-down.
