DESIGNER NOTES
THE DONNA WHITE COTTON BUTTON-DOWN SHIRT
A white button-down blouse is one of the most classic pieces of all time and I was never able to find one with just the right fit. They were either far too boxy, or far too slim, and the buttons were always in the wrong spot. For the Classic Six shirt, along with the feminine details, my number 1 priority was the placement of buttons, so that the bra-line button is right at the bra-line and not below (like every other button-down I have ever owned.) I am determined to raise the bar for white blouses everywhere.
THE KATHARINE DOUBLE-BREASTED NAVY BLAZER
For years, I had been on an endless search for the perfect double-breasted blazer. I could never find the right cut, in a fabric that I knew would stand the test of time, plus one that had beautiful and special details. When I was deciding what silhouettes I wanted to design for Classic Six, the double-breasted blazer was my #1 and I wasn’t going to stop until it was a perfect blend of everything on my wish list.
THE TWIGGY MINI SHIFT DRESS
I think a shift is the one piece every woman should have in her wardrobe, regardless of age or size. it’s an entire outfit in one. You can wear it with flats or sneakers, but then also completely dress it up with stilettos and jewels. It works for so many different body types because it isn’t form-fitting, yet is still incredibly sexy. a long-sleeve crew-neck is beyond chic. Plus, When showing more leg, I always like to leave something to the imagination. I was never able to find this ideal combination on my endless search for the perfect shift.
THE MARILYN ACCORDION-PLEATED MIDI SKIRT
What I love specifically about a pleated midi skirt is the versatility. From sneakers to stilettos, day to night, this skirt can be worn anywhere, and is a necessary item in every closet. I wanted ours to be special, which is why I included some details that you won’t likely find anywhere else. The pleat-count and fabric we chose also gives this skirt beautiful movement.
THE BRIGITTE CHUNKY WAFFLE-KNIT LINEN SWEATER
When I set out to design the Classic Six sweater, I wanted something that wasn’t only cozy, but incredibly chic as well; something that would drape beautifully and wear really luxuriously; one that I could wear sliding off my shoulder for dinner out, or with our white blouse under it for day. A chunky waffle knit in a season-less yarn like linen feels like such a “wow” to me- You know…the type of sweater you would see strutting 5th Ave and want desperately, but would be sure it cost thousands of dollars. This is what I wanted to create.
THE JACKIE DUSTER COAT
This coat has actually turned out to be one of my favorite pieces in the collection. It is so hard to find a season-less coat that is long enough to wear with your longer skirts, but still chic and slim that it doesn’t feel overpowering. It will no doubt become a go-to piece to throw over anything from jeans to skirts. Plus, I was adamant that it needed some great transitional elements like the optional belt and our hidden grosgrain loops. I want you to be able to wear with or without, creating even more looks with just one coat!
