Destination: Anywhere chill

Christmas in July? Never saw the appeal. However, like clockwork, the middle of summer has me longing for cashmere and crocodile boots. North-easterners are known for being snowbirds each year and heading down south for the winter.  Let’s be ‘cool’ pioneers and reverse that. For the discerning traveler seeking something icy from the heat without compromise, here’s a quick curated guide to chilly destinations that promise both refreshment and indulgence.

Where: St. Mortiz
65 degrees in July
Wear: Brigitte linen Sweater layered over Linen Donna

For those who crave the ultimate in luxury and alpine beauty, St. Moritz reigns supreme. Known for its sparkling lakes, snow-capped peaks, and world-class skiing, this Swiss gem is a playground for the affluent traveler. Indulge in après-ski cocktails at the legendary Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, where old-world charm meets modern sophistication. Alternatively, escape to the tranquil slopeside retreats like the Carlton Hotel St. Moritz, where panoramic views and plush interiors redefine mountain chic.

Where: Queenstown, New Zealand
50-60 degrees in July
Wear: Katharine Blazer

Escape to the chilly Southern Hemisphere in Queenstown, nestled amidst the stunning Southern Alps of New Zealand. This adventure capital offers a perfect blend of “go-go-go” and indulgence. Ski at the nearby Remarkables or Coronet Peak, then unwind in style at the chic Eichardt’s Private Hotel, known for its opulent suites and lakeside views. OR, retreat to Matakauri Lodge for a secluded alpine sanctuary with unparalleled luxury and hospitality- where you can sleep away your jet lag.

Where: Tromso, Norway
57-65 degrees in July
Wear: Clogs and bucket hats

If you haven’t gone - go. The beauty of the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, Norway is the gateway to the Northern Lights. Summer here brings endless days of the Midnight Sun, offering unique opportunities for outdoor adventures like kayaking under the glow of the never-setting sun. Stay at the strikingly modern Scandic Ishavshotel, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame panoramic fjord views, or opt for the historic charm of Clarion Hotel The Edge, blending Nordic design with Arctic allure.
