Packing a weekender bag for Memorial Day? It might look different depending on your age. Getting out of town for Memorial Day weekend looks a lot different in your 30s and 40s than it did in my 20s. For one, I could pack more because my clothes were skimpier so they required less space. The contents usually consisted of two to three Free People denim shorts, bikinis, a “going out dress' and three bottles of Whispering Angel for my team to sip on before the Sloppy Tuna (iykyk). Today, as a woman in her mid 30s, MDW packing contents mirrors different priorities. I’ve got comfortable shoes that teeter on orthopedic because ya know - walking might be involved, a kindle and Imodium for the boat ride. No matter what decade you find yourself in, don’t abandon a great outfit for generational essentials this upcoming holiday weekend. East Coast
Where: Memorial Day on coastal New England is quintessential Americana. The Pridwin Hotel in Shelter Island, NY is nestled on emerald landscapes with a sea view. After a pool dip, take a boat ride over to Sag Harbor from Crescent beach to visit the Classic Six flagship store to pick up some dinner-wear essentials.

West Coast
Where: If you find yourself somewhere in between wine country and LA, but want a little bit of European flavor for your American holiday, get yourself to The Landsby Hotel in Solvang, CA. Enjoy your breakfast danish with charming views of the nearby Danish village before horseback riding through wine country into the Cali/Dutch sunset.
